Clayton O. Johnson was born to Carl and Olga (Bakke) Johnson on March 18, 1920 in Newfolden, MN. Clayton was the oldest of 3 children. At the age of 5, the family moved to Good Ridge, MN. He received his primary education there. In 1939, Clayton went into the CCC Camp at Allan Junction near Middle River, MN. Early in 1941, he rode the rails and went to San Diego, CA. He was there until he was drafted into the Army, Nov. 22, 1942. He spent his WWII days on the Aleutian Islands. Following his discharge he returned to Thief River Falls, MN area. In 1946, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Swanson. They had 2 children Annelle in 1948 and Mitchel in 1952. In 1950, they moved to San Diego, CA, where they lived for 10 years before returning to Thief River Falls. Clayton was a tool and die maker for Convair. He then was employed by Consumers Coop in Thief River Falls. In 1962, they moved to St. James and he managed Midland Coop. Many a good time was spent at the cabin near Perham, MN. Clayton was an avid coin collector, loved his scratch offs. Most of all he loved being Marge Johnson's husband of almost 67 years. His grandchildren were his life. He also was a member of Mason's, Lions, VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his children Annelle Schofield of St. James, Mitch (Tina) Johnson of Helena, MT, son-in-law John Schofield of St. Cloud, grandchildren Robert (Melissa) Schofield of Hutchinson, Andrew (Pauline) Schofield of Hutchinson, Grant (Lois) Schofield of Sauk Rapids, Zachary Johnson of Berkeley, CA, Emma Johnson of Helena, MT, great-grandchildren Jennifer, Logan, Cameron, Morgan, Sabrina, Clayton and Truman.
