Clarence Penner was born on December 26, 1923 in Mountain Lake, MN to Jacob and Anna (Fast) Penner. In 1942 he graduated from St. James High School. While living in St. James, MN, Clarence worked for James Brothers Hardware Store. In 1945 he was baptized, confirmed and received as a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. He later transfered his membership to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. Clarence married Manetta Pfeil on July 7, 1946 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and they remained together for over 60 years. Clarence served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in December 1946. Clarence and Manetta moved to the family farm north of Mountain Lake and farmed for 28 years. He also worked for Kliewer Electric and was a U.S. Mail Carrier for 20 years. He served on the Midway Township Board and was an active member of the National Farmers Union organization. Clarence was faithful to his church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, church elder, and church treasurer. He was an active member of the American Legion and served proudly for over 50 years. Clarence Penner, 82 ,of Mountain Lake, MN died on Monday, February 13, 2006 at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN. Clarence is survived by his wife, Manetta Penner of Mountain Lake; a son, Steven and his wife Marsha Penner of Mountain Lake; a daughter, Sherrie Penner of Cokato, MN; three grandchildren, Joe Henning of St. Cloud, Travis Henning of Howard Lake, MN, and Chad and his wife Cindy Penner of Mound, MN; a great granddaughter, Sienna Penner of Mound; a brother, Tony Penner of Mountain Lake; four sisters-in-law, Thelma Penner of Grenora, ND, Gladys Peterson of Phoenix, AZ, Grace Peterson of St. James, MN, and Josephine Penner of Windom, MN; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Ina Penner; a daughter, Julie Ann Penner; two brothers, Marvin and Raymond Penner; and two step brothers, Donald and Basil Peterson.
