Clarence Niemeier

Clarence Niemeier passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. Clarence William Walter Niemeier was born on the family farm in the South Branch area on November 3, 1930, the son of Alfred and Emma (Mathias) Niemeier. Clarence attended South Branch Parochial School through the eighth grade and graduated in 1948 from St. James High School. On June 22, 1952 Clarence was united in marriage with RaMona Siem. The couple made their home on the family farm where Clarence farmed with his father before buying the operation from him. He later farmed with his son Kevin for 12 years. Clarence lived in the same home his entire life. Clarence was active in community service and on many boards including various church boards & bible study, cemetery board, bank board and Watonwan Farm Services Board. He also enjoyed his volunteer work with the Wellspring and the senior lunch site. He also coached girls softball for many years. Clarence and RaMona enjoyed traveling to such places as Florida, California, Mexico and Hawaii. They spent many winters in Mesa, AZ and Galveston, TX. Clarence enjoyed spending time playing softball, golfing, boating, ice fishing, reading and as most farmers do, driving around the countryside checking out crops. He also loved spending time with his family playing cards or supervising the grandkids as they tackled the farm chores. In the early 1990s he and Ramona were honored with the Farm Family of the Year award. Clarence is survived by his children; Nona Niemeier, Kevin (Betsy) Niemeier, Gayleen (Randy) Sternberg, Brad (Eileen) Niemeier, grandchildren; James (Jennifer) Niemeier, Kathryn (Jonathan) Henriksen, David (Kristina) Niemeier, Stephanie (Ethan) Berg, Naomi (David) Schuster, Dustin Niemeier, Melanie (Matt) Dokkebakken, Crystal (Tyler) DeVore, Steven Niemeier, special friend Ruth Joan Ottum, great-grandchildren; Jack & Joe Niemeier, Fiona Henricksen, Addison, Brynn & Cora Berg, Raelen Schuster, Dylan & Blake Dokkebakken, Savannah & Jameson DeVore and one on the way for David and Kristina. He is also survived by his sisters; Hilma Johnson, Eldora Krenz and sister-in-law Sharon Malott, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife RaMona in 2014, parents, brother Norman, brothers-in-law; Dale Siem, Donald Johnson, Dwayne Krenz, Elden Malott and nephew Barry Malott.
