Clarence Mathiowetz

Clarence Wolfgang Mathiowetz was born October 31, 1913 in Eden Township, Brown County, the son of Joseph S. and Mary M. (Gewerth) Mathiowetz. He grew up in the Sleepy Eye area and attended District 35 school and St. Mary's School. Clarence was united in marriage to Loretta Reiner on June 16, 1936. Loretta died in 1970. He was then married to Evelyn Moldan (Mickelson) on October 30, 1974. Following Evelyn's death in 1984, Clarence was united in marriage to Annie Nuy (Van Damme) on June 17, 1987.Clarence farmed his entire life and also hauled peas and corn for Del Monte for 28 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid, and served on the Township Board for 29 years, and the District 35 School Board for many years. Clarence enjoyed bowling, dancing and farming. Clarence W. Mathiowetz died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center at the age of 91 years. Survivors include wife- Annie of Sleepy Eye; children- Marlys and husband Luvern Haala of Sleepy Eye, Richard and wife Agnus Mathiowetz of Fairfax, Lowell and wife Judy Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye, Patrick and wife Jane Mathiowetz of Middleton, WI, and Duane and wife Carol Mathiowetz of Mill Valley, CA; several step-sons and daughters; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law- Dianna Mathiowetz of New Ulm; brothers- Harold and wife Lucille Mathiowetz of Olivia, and Joseph and wife Shirley Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye; and sisters- Angela Hornick of Livermore, CA, Loretta Mathiowetz of Fairmont, and Evelyn Betts of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives- Loretta and Evelyn; sons- Ronald in 1945 and Gerald in 1967; grandchildren- Karen, Timothy and Daniel Mathiowetz; brothers- Raymond, Leo, Norbert and Robert; and sisters- Rosalia Zwaschka and Ann in infancy.
