Clara Belle Johnson

Clara Belle Mohlenbrock was born on the family farm near Mountain Lake on September 14, 1928, the daughter of George and Louise (Marienau) Mohlenbrock. Clara grew up on the family farm, attended Country school and graduated from Mt. Lake High School. She worked at Butterfield Produce for many years. In 1948, she married Roland Vatndal, the couple made their home in Butterfield. Roland died in an automobile accident in 1952. In 1954, Clara married George Johnson, they made their home on a farm in the Mt. Lake area. They moved to Butterfield where they raised their family and both worked at Butterfield Produce. They lived in Storden for a time before moving to St. James and George died in 2000. Clara enjoyed embroidery work, watching old movies, soap operas and Nashville music on TV, and enjoyed word find books. She loved raising her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She kept a meticulous house. Clara is survived by her children; Carol (Robert) Nelson of Winnebago, Karen (Jim) Thulien of St. James, Marlys Johnson of Heron Lake, Patty (Chuck) Rogers of Gardner, KS, Judy (Randy) Scott of Hansville, WA, Jody (Scott) Horkey of Windom, Joyce (Scott) Hillmer of Fairmont, sisters; Norma Smith of Kandiyohi, Ethel Harder of Colorado Springs, CO, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two husbands, 3 infant children, a grandson, a great-grandson, parents, and 7 siblings.
