Claire Russell Seibert, son of Charles and Pearl Seibert, was born June 10, 1917 in Kanawha, Iowa. In 1919 the Seibert family moved to Madelia. He graduated from high school in Madelia, and had one year of accounting at Mankato Commercial College. He worked for Lockheed in Burbank, CA, before enlisting in the Air Corps on Aug. 13, 1942. During WWII he spent 3 years serving and was honorably discharged on Nov. 21, 1945. Claire married Dallas Person on June 22, 1947 in Maddock, ND. He managed and owned Seibert's Foodland for 52 years in Madelia. Claire was a member of the Madelia Fire Dept. for 37 years, 15 of which he served as secretary. He was on the Madelia City Council for 29 years. He also served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council, was president of the Madelia Chamber of Commerce, active in Boy Scouts, and served on the Region 9 Commission. After retiring from the grocery business in 1990, he turned his woodworking hobby into a business. He retired from his woodworking in Aug. 2007. Claire's interests were in camping, traveling, woodworking and enjoyed spending time with his dogs and playing cards. In Dec. 2009 Claire moved to the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia and resided there until his death. Claire is survived by his son Dr. Paul (Norma) Seibert of Fairmont, daughters Jean (Steve) Moses of Madelia, Betty (Jeff) Stauffer of Mankato, Mary (Dr. Richard) Hardie of Sioux Falls, grandchildren Tahnee Seibert and special friend, Drew Geyen, Shelby (Chris) Obray, Spencer Seibert and special friend, Amanda Bursell, Dan (Amy) Moses, Matt Moses and special friend, Krista Ingwell, Jennifer Stauffer, Alison Morley, and Lauren (Mathias) Sturtz, great-grandchildren Maycee Moses and Adley Sturtz. He is preceded in death by his wife Dallas, brother Darwyn, and infant brother Duane, grandbabies Kyle Seibert and Benjamin Stauffer.
