Charles Henry Romberg, the son of Carl and Dorothy (Marti) Romberg, was born on February 23, 1938, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and was raised on the family farm. He was baptized on March 20, 1938, and confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 6, 1952, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. In his younger years, Charles attended country school through the sixth grade and then attended Sleepy Eye Public School where he participated in FFA and basketball. He graduated in 1956. In 1961, Charles enlisted in the United States Army and completed basic training in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He served as a military police officer in Germany and was honorably discharged in August of 1963.

Charles met the love of his life, Sally Dummann, and they were united in marriage on December 7, 1968. They were blessed with three daughters, Lisa, Lori, and Lana and raised their family on the farm in Sleepy Eye. In addition to farming with his brother Bob, Charles was a Pioneer Seed dealer for 24 years. Community-minded with a servant’s heart, Charles was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye where he served in many positions including president, councilman, usher, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. Additionally, he gave his time and energy to Sleepy Eye Area Historical Society where he served as president for many years, Prairieland Flywheel 2 Cylinder Club, Home Cemetery Board, MCCL, and the AFS program. Gardening and sharing his produce, cooking, hunting, and fishing in Canada were hobbies Charles enjoyed. Playing cards was also a favorite pastime and he taught each of his grandchildren how to play Cribbage. Charles treasured the time he shared with his family most of all. He enjoyed family vacations and always looked forward to the trips he and Sally took with Wendinger Travel. A faith-filled man, Charles lived his confirmation verse, Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” throughout his life.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sally Romberg; daughters, Lisa Romberg, Lori (Les) Ruthenbeck, and Lana (Philip) Strike; grandchildren, Carl (Kayla), Julia, Zachary (Suraya), Luke, Lydia (fiancé Noah Buck) Strike and Amber, David, Daniel, and Amy Ruthenbeck; great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Emelia, and Zahra Strike; sister, Jane (Rich) Aukrust; sisters-in-law, Marion Romberg, Karen Beech, and Susan (Ralph) Storm; brothers-in-law, Paul (Melanie) Dummann and Paul Sieg; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy Romberg; infant sister; brothers, Robert Romberg and Glenn Romberg; parents-in-law, George and Cynthia Dummann; and sister-in-law, Tammy Sieg.
