C. Roger Nelson, age 85, of Madelia, MN, died on March 26, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Madelia, on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2:00 pm.

The clergy will be Rev. Greg Volbrecht.

Charles Roger "Roger" Nelson was born in Madelia, MN to Charles Trafford "Taffy" and LaVina (Splinter) Nelson on September 25, 1937.  Roger was a man of strong faith.  He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder for many years.  His church family meant a lot to him.   He also enjoyed having coffee with his buddies at the Triangle, bowling alley and nursing home.  On June 25, 1967, Roger married Carol Meissner in Elmore, MN.   Carol was the love of his life; another love of his life was playing golf.  Roger was a 3 time Club Champion at Watonwan in St. James and 1 time Club Champion at Madelia.  He made 2 holes in one, one at each golf course!  Roger was usually the first to open the season and last to close it out.  Roger had jokes for every occasion written in his little book that he always carried in his pocket.  He enjoyed sharing the humor with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol Nelson; sister, Joyce Crosby; niece, Catherine (Barry) McConnell and nephew, Matthew (Lisa) Crosby. He is preceded in death by his parents, Taffy and LaVina Nelson and brother-in-law, James Crosby.
