Cecilia Marie Isabel (Sellner) Scherer, Sally to her friends, died July 13th, 2021, at the age of 92 surrounded by her children. Cecilia was born on December 9th, 1928, to William and Cecilia (Mathiowetz) Sellner in Stark Township, Brown County, Minnesota. She was the eldest of their five children. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1948. On May 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, Leo Frank Scherer, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Following marriage, the couple lived and farmed for 46 years in Prairieville Township near Evan. They had 10 children: Virginia (Vern) Lindenfelser, Leon (Gladys) Scherer, Joan (Joseph) Mueller, Donna (Scott) Kettler, Mary Jo (Wayne) Pieper, Joseph (Laurie) Scherer, Lorraine (John) Hillesheim, Thomas (Laurie) Scherer, Brian (Colleen) Scherer, and Brenda (David) Alexander. They were blessed with 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In 1996, they retired from farming and moved to Sleepy Eye. Cecilia was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church; a life-long member and secretary for 10 years of Post 800 (VFW) Auxiliary; a member of Brown County Extension, Sleepy Eye Senior Club, St. Rita's Study Club, and St. Mary's Christian Mothers. She was a 20-year Auxiliary Board member at Divine Providence Community Home and volunteered at the Next-Tu-Nu Shop in Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching the Vikings and Twins, going to garage sales and attending children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's activities and sports. An avid card player, she was a member of many clubs including the Whist Club, Marathon 500, Birthday Club, sheepshead, pinochle, and so forth. She was an expert home-maker and gardener and taught her children every practical skill imaginable. She was known for her hard work and green thumb. She lived her life with faith and love; in her death she impressed upon all who were with her the meaning of grace. Cecilia was preceded in death by Leo, her husband of 48 years, sons-in-law Vernon Lindenfelser and Joseph Mueller, her parents, and her brothers Wendelin, Hilarius, and Benjamin Sellner, and many members of her large, extended family whom she dearly loved. In addition to her 10 children, 26 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, she is survived by her sister Marcella Hager, and sisters-in-law Gloria Sellner and Erna Scherer.
