Catherine Elizabeth Martinson

Catherine Martinson, age 102, of Butterfield, passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 3, 2024, at Mayo Health System in Saint James.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James and will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt Lake. Funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt Lake, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield.

Catherine Elizabeth Martinson was born January 26. 1922, to Ollie and Catherine (Carsten) Michelsen in DeSota, Nebraska. She grew up and attended school in DeSota. On December 16, 1940, Catherine married Howard Martinson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Together, they raised one daughter, Doretta.

Catherine worked as a seamstress and did reupholstery her entire life. She owned and operated Martinson Upholstery in Butterfield until the age of 97, she continued to do small projects for a select few even after that.

In her free time, Catherine enjoyed golfing, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family. She was a kind and caring person who would unselfishly do things for others without expecting anything in return. Her warmhearted affection of family and friends will be deeply missed.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Doretta (Harold) Loewen; grandchildren, Troy (June) Loewen, Valerie (Brad) Ommodt, and Kirby (Sara) Loewen; great grandchildren, Sean Loewen, Jamie Loewen, Felicia (Jake) Romsdahl, Cayden (Lydia) Ommodt, Breonna (Kory) Grey, and Hannah Loewen; great great-grandchildren, Brecken Loewen, Connor Loewen, Niko Loewen, Tucker Ahlbrecht, Mason Loewen, Knoxx Romsdahl, Jayger Romsdahl, Rennick Romsdahl, Niessen Romsdahl, Riggins Romsdahl, Harrison Ommodt, Hollynn Ommodt, Zeplin Grey, Vallon Grey, Ozzy Grey, and baby Grey on the way.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard in 1972; siblings, Art, Glen, Leonard, Viola Hultman, Lillian Warnemunde, and Elmer "Buddy”;along with great granddaughter, Amber Loewen.
