Carol Beverly Dahl Tews died at the age of 88 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, where she had resided for nearly three years. She was born March 22, 1918 at the family farm near Kennedy, MN where she spent her early years and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1934. She attended business school in International Falls, MN. A woman ahead of her generation, she worked in the business field at numerous places throughout the United States including Chicago, San Diego, and Washington DC, where she was working at the end of WWII. After the war ended, she moved back to Minnesota and married Evan Tews in 1954 at the age of 36. Together they enjoyed happy, busy years as they farmed and raised their three children, Charles, Paul, and Joanna. Following Evan's death in 1990, she spent winters in Yuma AZ and summers at her childhood cabin near Baudette, MN as well as her house on the farm near Springfield where she still enjoyed keeping an eye on the farming operation. She was a faithful and lifelong Lutheran, active in teaching Sunday School and in the LCW at Christ Lutheran Church. She was known as a great cook, and will best be remembered for her outstanding lefse, homemade soups, and breads. She was a wonderful, caring grandmother who made the best cookies and was a regular attendee at concerts, plays, and school performances. She will be truly missed by all who experienced her love.
