Carl Douglas Nordquist

Carl D. "Doug" Nordquist, age 93, of Windom, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Luverne Minnesota Veterans Home.

Visitation will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior (1157 Third Avenue, Windom, MN, 56101) on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 10-11 AM prior to the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Paul Sajban officiating. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Carl was born on December 23, 1932, in Oconto, Wisconsin to Carl A. and Mae (Hansen) Nordquist. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran in Oconto, Wisconsin. He attended and graduated from school in Oconto in 1950. Following graduation on March 31, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and went to basic training in Texas, and then was stationed in Germany, Washington D.C., France, Omaha NB, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Texas, and Taiwan. He was honorably discharged after 20 years of service on July 31, 1971.

On August 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Thatcher, they were married until 1971. They had two children, Carl Nordquist Jr. and Kevin Nordquist.

On May 12, 1973, following his discharge from the Airforce, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marlene Avis (Kutzbach) Morfitt in Lakefield, Minnesota. They built a life around the two merged families where he was a feed salesman, hog farmer, sold Hy-dro Tech products, managed the Elseth Egg Plant and later sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha. In 1978, they moved to Windom where he continued as an insurance salesman, managed the American Legion Bar and Supper Club and drove school bus until he retired.

Carl was an enthusiastic, dedicated and loyal football and Green Bay Packer fan. He watched every football game. He was also an avid golfer, and you could find him most mornings on the area golf courses. Carl also taught golf and 55 Alive courses at the Worthington Community College and around the local area. He enjoyed being a member of the American Legion Post #206 and was the Post Commander from 1987 to 1988. He took pleasure in representing Post #206 in all the area parades.

Carl also loved singing. He annually attended from 2000-2004 in Nashville, Tennessee, the Ben Speer's Stamp-Baxter School of Music. He also sang at area Nursing homes and in 2002 recorded a Gospel 14 song CD "My Cathedral" in Alexandria, Minnesota. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, leather work, bowling, woodworking, and square dancing. His woodwork was a passion and the items he made he gifted to many family members and friends.

Following Marlene's retirement, they began RVing and spent many winters in New Mexico and Texas along with frequent vacations all around the US.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene of 53 years; his children, Carl (Mary) Nordquist, Jr. and Kevin (Elizabeth) Nordquist; Marlene's children, Donald (Mary) Morfitt, Jr., Denise (Anthony-Tony) Nichols, Dawn (Warren-Craig) Beighley and Terry (Pamela) Morfitt; 17 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Mae (Hansen) Nordquist; his father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Mildred Kutzbach; his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Kutzbach) Scott; his half-brothers, Roy Carlson and Norman; his half-sisters, Dorthey Botcher, Hazel Bogard Schmitz and Lois Kasube Kruger.
