Brian Schlomann

Brian Schlomann, age 39, of Butterfield, died on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System-St. James. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Saturday, December 31, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Butterfield with Rev. Lowell Asplund officiating. Burial will be at the Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield. Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4pm to 7pm and will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Brian Scott Schlomann was born July 21, 1972, in Madelia, MN, the son of Dennis and Joan (Freeman) Schlomann. Brian grew up in Butterfield, was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Butterfield, and graduated from Butterfield-Odin High School in 1990. Brian served in the US Navy from 1990-1993 and was stationed in Norfolk Virginia and served on the USS Eisenhower during the Persian Gulf War. In 1998, Brian went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. On May 10, 2008, he was united in marriage to Kyla Kunkel at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. The couple made their home in Butterfield. Brian enjoyed gardening, lawn work, fishing, baseball and trains of all types. Brian is survived by his wife Kyla, daughter Kaitlyn, and their dog Tipper of Butterfield; mother, Joan Schlomann of Butterfield; brothers, Les Schlomann of Butterfield and his son Jared (Sara) Schlomann of Ft.Riley, KS; Al (Danielle) Schlomann and their children, Annika, Derek, and Alyssa, all of Ham Lake; Brad Schlomann of Windom; grandmother, Mary Nootenboom of Madelia; In-Laws, Stan and Nancy Kunkel of St. James; sister-in-law, Mindy (Mike) Burman and their children Aidan and Sophia, all of Rochester. He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis; grandparents, Harry Lynn Schlomann and Ken Nootenboom.
