Bonnie Lei Teigum

February 28, 1943 — January 30, 2017

Bonnie Lei (Barclay) Teigum was born to Donald and Joan (Priest) Barclay on February 28, 1943. Though she was born in Tucson, Bonnie grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Washburn High School in 1961 and attending Mankato State the following year. There she met and married Bill Brown. They had two daughters, Carrie and Kristin. Following Bill's graduation, they moved to Oregon, where he taught high school English. In 1972, they returned to southern Minnesota and Madelia, where Bill taught English at the high school. Ultimately, that marriage was dissolved. In 1974, Bonnie returned to college at Mankato State and, in 1977, completed a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She and Allan married that summer, and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they went to work for the Clark County School District. In the course of her life there, Bonnie was three times named an Outstanding Educator, and won a national Clairol Take Charge Award in 1989. More importantly, she dedicated herself to the lives of hundreds of children K-8. After teaching there until 2005, they retired and moved to Texas to be near their youngest grandchildren (the better to spoil them). In 2012 they returned to Watonwan County and their home south of St. James. They have spent about half their time there and the other half on the west coast (again, spoiling grandkids). Bonnie Lei Teigum age 73, of Saint James, Minnesota died on January 30, 2017, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, following a brief illness. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Allan Teigum; daughters, Carrie (Ruth) Brown of NE, Kristin (Wesley) Williamson of OR; brother, Donald (Annie) Barclay; sister, Cynthia Barclay; grandchildren, Colette, Amellia, Gabriell, Chelsee, Logan, Skye; great-grandchildren, Anthony David, Madison Marie, Ellis, Zane, Alivia, Skylar Elizabeth, Evie; nieces and nephews, Tony Michael, Gail, Heather, Nick, and Trevor. She was preceded in death by her parents; Donald (Joan) Barclay, and first husband, Bill Brown. Memorials preferred to the Bonnie Teigum Memorial Scholarship Fund.
