Betty Schmidt

Betty Jean Schmidt was born January 2, 1928, in Springfield, MN the daughter of Edwin and Emily (Wendler) Schultz. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1945, then attended Nurse's Training at Union Hospital in New Ulm. Betty worked at Union Hospital until her marriage to Philip 'PJ' Schmidt on February 14, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. In 1958, Betty began working at the Springfield Hospital where she worked for 25 years. She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on several committees. Betty enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting and gardening. She also delivered Meals-on-Wheels and planted the flowers in the Martha Anderson park for several years. Betty Jean Schmidt died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at her home at the age of 84 years. She is survived by children- Steve Schmidt of Springfield, Laurie and husband Wayne Nelson of Willmar, Deanna and husband Dennis Prough of Utica, MI, and David and wife Cindy Schmidt of Charleston, SC; 7 grandchildren; brother Russell (Janice) Schultz of Alexandria; sister Jeanine (Myron) Walton of Sioux Falls; and sister-in-law Joan Schultz of Willmar.
