Betty J. Riley was born on February 22, 1936 in Blue Earth County, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Pfeffer) Johnson. She attended country school and graduated from Madelia High School in 1954. She worked for Bell Telephone in Mankato. On June 23, 1956 she was united in marriage to Jerome M. Riley at Lake Crystal Holy Family Catholic Church. The couple lived in Wanda, MN, Clements, MN, Maple Lake, MN, and in 2002 they moved to Sleepy Eye. Betty worked as a bookkeeper for various places and retired from the License Center in Redwood Falls, MN. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and the CCW. Betty enjoyed Cross Word Puzzles, gardening, flowers, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty died on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, MN at the age of 70 years. She is survived by her husband - Jerome Riley of Sleepy Eye; daughters - Theresa Odash of Blaine, MN, Linda husband Greg Roiger of Springfield, MN, and Carol Brian Polesky of Sleepy Eye, MN; sons - Jerry Riley of Big Lake, MN and Jim wife Chris Riley of Elk River, MN; 12 grandchildren - Diane Karen Odash, Rachel, Ann, Shelley, Becky Roiger, Andrew Alex Riley, DJ Danny Riley, and Brandon Brianna Polesky; one great-grandchild, Brenden Odash; special friends - Billy Betty Daleiden; a sister - Helen Anderson of Jackson, MN; brothers - Kenneth Johnson of Lake Crystal, MN, and Luverne wife Mary Johnson of Good Thunder, MN; a sister-in-law - Donna (Johnson) Bye of Bloomington, MN. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; a son - David Riley; a grandson - Glen Odash; a stillborn son; a sister - Barbara Johnson; and a brother - Donald Johnson.
