Betty Lou Kieper was born November 16, 1941, in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of Florian and Leona (Rothmeier) Helget. Betty was united in marriage to Gerald ‘Jerry’ Kieper on April 4, 1961, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield. They made their home in rural Springfield with their three children and operated the family farm as a team. Betty was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family dinners. Her family especially enjoyed her canned pickles, raisin bars, and from scratch stuffing and sauerkraut with dumplings. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, friends, attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events, playing sheep head, tending to her flowers, reading, jigsaw puzzles, the MN Vikings, and the MN Twins. Betty was a cheerful care giver of time and was always ready and willing to help others.
Betty was a lifelong member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and was a member of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2022, at her home at Garnette Gardens, Redwood Falls, MN, at the age of 80 years.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Donna and husband Cary Harstad of Byron, MN; son, Curt and wife Valerie of Springfield; son, Korey and wife Raquel of Springfield; grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris) Roberts, Kristen (Noah Barton) Harstad, Daniel Harstad, Justin (Lisa) Kieper, Jacob (Caralyn) Kieper, Jesse (Lily Steinhaus) Kieper, Jordan (Kylie Wersal) Kieper, Amelia Kieper, and Kinley Kieper; great grandchildren, Nora and Hank Kieper, Miles Roberts, Elliot and Cameron Kieper, and Averie Salonek; sisters, Lois Schley, Marjorie (Randi) Martinson, brother, Kevin (Sue) Helget; a sister-in-law - Sally Helget; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Kieper; parents, Florian and Leona Helget; father in-law and mother in-law, Reinhold and Rose Kieper, sister Joanne Groebner, brother Kenneth Helget, brothers-in-law - Ralph Schley and Dennis Kieper.
