Betty Jean (Adams) Dalen, 88 years old, died on May 31, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James, MN. She was born on February 28, 1929 in Wood Lake, MN. She was the daughter of John and Emelia (Jensen) Adams. Betty was baptized and confirmed at Wood Lake Methodist Church. Betty graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1947 and went on to attend and graduate from the Minneapolis Business College in 1948. Betty had 6 siblings which include: brother John and wife Betty Adams, sisters Edna and husband Ernest Bergquist, Mary and husband Walter Volkman, Gladys and husbands Shorty Volkman and Albert Kastle, Phyllis and husband James Carroll, and Patricia and husband Milnor (Andy) Braun. Betty married Leonard Dalen at the Wood Lake Methodist Church in Wood Lake, MN on August 26, 1950 and they were happily married for 67 years. They were blessed with three children, Jerry and wife Sue (Rettke) Dalen of Wabasha, MN, Dean and wife Theresa (Hill) Dalen of Darwin, MN, and daughter Jane (Dalen) Miller and husband Brad of Decorah, IA and six grandchildren and 1 great grandchild: Jillian (Dalen) Anderson and husband Kasey and their son Hunter, Jennifer Dalen, Adam Dalen and his wife Darcy (Cornelius) Dalen, Andrea (Dalen) Beduhn and her husband Ryan, Kaia (Miller) Chambers and her husband Tanner, and Joshua Miller. Betty lived every day of her life to the fullest. She was a committed wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and faith. Betty was very active in church, serving on boards and councils, FLCW President 4 times, and Circle and Bazaar chairman. She was also awarded the Sertoma award on 5/23/2009 for her many years of volunteer work. Betty was a member of the VFW auxiliary and served two terms as Auxiliary President. Betty was always very active as she enjoyed walking, biking, traveling, and watching her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting and musical events. She especially loved playing bridge and golf and was the women's golf club champion 18 times. Betty was an excellent seamstress and had her own drapery business for over 30 years. Betty was preceded in death by her parents John and Emelia (Jensen) Adams and four sisters: Edna Bergquist, Phyllis Carroll, Gladys Volkman Kastle, and Mary Volkman.
