Betty Jane Bielen was born to Carl and Martha (Weinberger) Bielen in Springfield, MN on February 26, 1932. She attended school in Springfield through the 8th grade when she left to help her family and other area families. Betty later worked in New Ulm at Eibner's, Dakota Hotel, Purity White Restaurant and the Loretta Hospital. She was united in marriage to Phillip 'Dixie' Frank on January 6, 1952, in New Ulm where the couple made their home. Betty enjoyed browsing, going out to eat, visiting with friends, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. Betty Jane Bielen died Friday, November 6, 2009, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 77 years. She is survived by daughters- Karla Townsend of New Ulm, and Karmin and husband Michael Hacker of Lafayette; grandchildren- Emilio and wife Lindsay Medina of New Ulm, Tanisha Medina of New Ulm, Heather and husband Josh Hemingway of Fargo, ND, Michael Hacker of New Ulm, Angela Hacker of Elk Grove, CA, and Travis and wife Whitney Hacker of Chanhassen; great-grandchildren- Piper Hemingway of Fargo, ND, Cassidy, Aliyha, Tayla and Tatyana Hacker of Elk Grove, CA, Natalie and Shawn Hacker of Chanhassen, and baby Medina of New Ulm; cousins Marie Weinberger and Doris Savage of Springfield; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Martha Bielen; brothers- Richard and Robert Bielen; sisters- Alice and Loree Bielen; and cousin Willie Weinberger.
