Betty M. Alt, age 92 of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota died on July 1, 2026, at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The clergy will be Pastor David Nissen. Interment will be at Home Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Betty Mae (Hughes) Alt was born February 11, 1934, to Earl and Pearl (Boucher) Hughes. She grew up in the Nicollet-St. Peter area. After graduation, she attended the University of Minnesota for her LPN license. She married Ronald Alt on June 30, 1956, in Norseland, Minnesota, and the couple had five children. After being married, Betty worked at Sleepy Eye Hospital and later went to work the night shift at Franklin Nursing Home. She worked there for over 40 years before retiring. Betty loved watching the Twins and Vikings. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by sons, Randy Alt of Jordan, MN, Rick (Kelli) Alt and Ross (Darla) Alt both of Casper, WY; daughter Julie (Clete) Ludewig of Sleepy Eye, MN; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cannon and Gail (Russell) Sorenson, both of Sleepy Eye, MN, Beverly Carnell of Bloomington, MN, and Phyllis Thompson of Hillman, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Alt; parents, Earl and Pearl Hughes; in-laws, John and Ruth Alt; son, Rodney Alt; brothers, Bob (Dorothy) Hughes, Dale Hughes, and Donald Hughes; sisters, Dodi (Martin) Johnson, Marion (John) Schneider, and Judy Hughes; in-laws, Charles (Sandy) Alt, Raymond (Pat) Alt, John Alt Jr., Tom Carnell, Art Cannon, and Don Thompson.
