Bernice A. Pieske was born on October 5, 1921 at home in Redwood County, MN to Andrew and Elizabeth (Lentz) Haak. She grew up and attended country school #33 in Redwood County. After her schooling she helped her father with farm work and worked for Potters in Springfield doing housework. She moved to Springfield and owned the Cozy Cafe. In 1962, Bernice moved to Sleepy Eye and worked at various places including Del Monte, 3M, Tony Downs Foods but mostly for Pietrus for about 20 years. After retiring in 1985 she babysat her great granddaughter, Ashley. Bernice was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed fishing, old time dance, road trips, watching t.v and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and all of her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Utz of New Ulm, granddaughters, Deb Mead and special friend Don Schwab of New Ulm, Melissa (Allen Butch) Krebs of Cobden, grandsons, David Utz of Bemidji, Michael (Leisha) Utz of Elk River, Dennis Utz and special friend Shawn Renwick of Cobden, Donny Jr. (Becky) Utz of New Ulm, 15 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, sister, Evelyn (Dale) Holmberg of Motley and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ervin and LuVerne Haak and sister, Maxine (Leonard) Lotzer.
