Bernice was born on January 26, 1931, in New Ulm, Minnesota to Alfred C. and Freda K. Sellner. She married the love of her life, Marvin Goldschmidt on September 11, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Together they were blessed with five children and shared many wonderful years of marriage.
Bernice was a longtime member of the St. Margaret’s Society. She enjoyed painting, woodcrafts, knitting, painting dishtowels, and working crossword puzzles. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and dearly loved her cats. More than anything Bernice treasured her family. She especially loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports and cherished every opportunity the family had to gather together.
She is survived by her children, Gail (Daryl) Sonnabend of Darfur, Kim Goldschmidt, daughter-in-law of St. James, Gwen (John) Schueller of Sleepy Eye, Gregg (Deb) Goldschmidt of Sveadahl, & Gene (Shawna) Goldschmidt of Maple Grove. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tina, Amber, Dustin, Aaron, Katy, Kara, Zachary, Joshua, Jacob, and Ray; great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Losleben of Sleepy Eye, sisters-in-law, Carol Hengel of Sleepy Eye, Sr. Audrey Goldschmidt of Rochester, Elaine Briggs of Sleepy Eye, Rosie Goldschmidt of Willmar, Olive Goldschmidt of Hutchinson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Goldschmidt, her son, Gary Goldschmidt, and her sister, Charlotte Backmann. While she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices that she has been welcomed into her eternal home.
Bernice’s family wishes to thank the staff of Divine Providence Community Home, Dr. Karlyn Armbruster, Maureen Heiderscheidt and the Sleepy Eye Medical Center staff for the compassionate care they provided.
