Bernice Eleanor (Teig) Anderson was joyfully reunited with her Lord, deceased loving family and friends on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born January 18, 1914 at Garvin, MN to John and Olive Marie (Shefland) Teig. Baptized at Modren Lutheran Church in Garvin MN. Attended country school through 8th grade near Garvin and then attended the University Farm School in St. Paul, MN where she met her future husband Sanford 0. Anderson. They were married on November 24, 1938 at Elbow Lake, MN by her brother-in-law, the Rev. Arthur W. Sorensen. Bernice farmed with Sanford on their family farm south of St. James until retirement in 1990 when they moved into St. James. Sanford and Bernice wintered in Mesa, AZ for many years and enjoyed traveling the USA and overseas to Israel, Europe and Hawaii. Bernice worked part time at the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home as a Nurse's Aide and later as a volunteer for many years. She was a past member of Waverly Lutheran Church of Trimont and at the time of her death, she was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. James. Prior to her death, Bernice proudly held the distinction of being the oldest living member of First Lutheran Church. She participated in multiple church activities and also taught Sunday school for many years. Bernice enjoyed dancing, knitting, reading, playing cards, word search puzzles, watching her "soaps" and game shows. She loved visits from family and friends and usually had some freshly baked apple pie or chocolate chip cookies to offer her guests. She was a fantastic cook and baker and especially enjoyed making lefse with the ladies of the church. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford 0. Anderson in 2005, after 67 years of marriage. Survived by her two children, Roger Anderson of St. James and Ruth (Dan) Zenga of Laporte; eight grandchildren: Krista (Tom) Cullen of Sauk Rapids, Ronald (Monique) Zenga of Rhode Island, Kasey (Lyn) Helling of Hanska, Kevin (Nikki) Zenga of' Maple Grove, Karyl (Jim) Christensen of Mason City, IA, Jade (LeAnn) Anderson of St. James, Tom (Nicole) Anderson of St. James, and Jesica (Jay) Ryan of Tea, SD. Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Andrew Lupinek, Hailee Cullen, Stella Zenga, Hunter, Taryn, Alyssa and Gunnar Helling, Tyler, Joseph and Gabriella Zenga, Brooklyn Meyer, Sara and Makayla Christensen, Derek Anderson, and Garrett, Jackson, Katie and Henry Ryan. Bernice is also survived by nieces and nephews. Memorial may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Pleasant View Good Samarian Society in St. James.
