Berneda Lavon 'Bea' Schickling

Berneda LaVon "Bea" (Schulz) Schickling was born on March 15, 1933 to Walter and Lucille (Kowinsky) Schulz in Mankato, MN. She attended Garden City Public Schools and graduated in 1951. She worked at the Garden City School and then met her husband, Willard Schickling. They married on November 29, 1952 and moved to Madelia, MN in 1968. Bea worked various jobs in Madelia before becoming employed with Madelia Lake Crystal Mutual Insurance Company, where she was employed for 41 years. Additionally, she taught piano lessons for decades and gave the gift of music to many! Bea was the church organist at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia, where she and Willard were members. She taught Sunday School and served in the LWML at church. She also volunteered with the Madelia Community Theatre, assisted with American Legion steak fry fundraisers. Bea enjoyed hobbies such as knitting, reading, playing piano, being the "Queen Bea" with the Red Hat Ladies and getting together with her family and friends. Berneda "Bea" Schickling age 86, of Madelia, MN died on May 3, 2019, at the Madelia Community Hospital. Bea is survived by her children, Steven (Sherry) Schickling of Owatonna, Larry (Phyllis) Schickling, LaVonne (Doug) Teigum and David (Jackie) Schickling, all of Madelia; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Lee Schulz of Mankato, Janet Schickling of Mankato and Georgine Anderson of Good Thunder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Schickling in 1995; parents Walter and Lucille Schulz; infant sister, Shirley Ann; brother, Ronald Schulz and great-grandson, Ethan Schickling.
