Bernard Suess

July 21, 1914 — September 20, 2008

There will be a KC Rosary at 4pm and a Parish Prayer service at 7pm, both Sunday at the funeral home. In the early hours of a starlit sky after a beautiful Minnesota autumn day, September 20, 2008, Bennie Suess left his life from us on earth after 94 years, to join his wife for eternal life in heaven. John and Barbara (Remiger) Suess were the proud parents of a son Bernard Simon Suess, born July 21, 1914, in Sleepy Eye. Bennie married Marcella Sally Sellner on September 16, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church and made their home in Sleepy Eye. Bennie was the owner of the Sleepy Eye Auction Market for 58 years. His love for horses was known throughout the area and he took the horses and carriages to many parades, surprised many wedding couples with a buggy ride, participated in horse shows, drove Miss Sleepy Eye in many parades, Homecoming parades and festivities, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant, Winter Carnival, to mention just a few of his travel excursions with his horses. Every spring and fall Dad and Mom would travel to Waverly, IA, for the horse sales, selling or buying the perfect team of horses or carriage/buggy. Bennie was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, KC's, COF, Catholic Aid, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Sleepy Eye Saddle Club and Cattleman's Association. When he wasn't driving his teams around the town he would enjoy playing cards have a beer with his friends, spending time with his family grandsons, going out with friends/family for dinner at the Orchid Inn, or just listening to the Minnesota Twins baseball games or old tyme music. He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, grandchildren and families: Elaine Chambers and grandson Jason Chambers. Diane and Dean Ibberson and their family, Forrest and Angie Ibberson, Ryan and Deanne Ibberson, and Matthew Ibberson. Great grandchildren Dylan and Trista Ibberson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marcella, his parents, brother Joe (Dora) Suess, sister Theresa (Henry) Haala, brothers Florian (Gertie) Suess, and George (Anna) Suess.
