Bernard Neid

Bernard Martin Neid was born October 30, 1920, on the family farm near Comfrey, Minnesota, to parents Joseph and Otilia (Hickel) Neid. Bernard graduated from Comfrey High School in 1938. Bernard was united in marriage on November 30, 1942 to Gertrude Hanson . The couple made their home in Kingman, AZ, until moving to St. James in 1944. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, serving one year in the Germany area. Bernard returned from his military service and went to work for Ziebarth Chevrolet, he then hauled livestock for several area farmers. The couple farmed near Sveadahl for a number of years before purchasing the farm West of St. James. Bernard was part owner of the Boston Hotel, caf and Cellar Bar. He was active in the Catholic Church where he served on the parish finance and other committees, and served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the 3 Penny Coffee Club. Bernard is survived by his son, Jim Neid of St. James, brother, Joe (Joyce) Neid of Sleepy Eye, sister, Marie (Tom) Kelly of Frankenmouth, MI, and a sister-in-law, Evangeline Hanson of St. James. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Roman, Alois, Norbert and a sister Agnes Fromm.
