Bernard J. Kunz

Bernard J. Kunz age 85, of Madelia, MN died on February 1, 2021, at his home. A funeral will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia, on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10:30 am. COVID 19 guidelines will be followed, including the use of masks and social distancing. The clergy will be Fr. Timothy Hall. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia. Military rites by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Bernard Joseph Kunz was born to Joseph H. and LoRita (Farris) Kunz on November 8, 1935 in Madelia, MN. He was a graduate of Madelia High School. Bernard served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1958. He married Barbara Lea (Firchau) Kunz on February 1, 1964. Bernard worked at Anderson Truck, LaSalle Farmers Grain, as well as, Husks Mobil. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, puzzles, sasquatch and squirrel watching. He was a member of the Waseca County Horse Thief Detectives. Bernard is survived by his daughters, Tammy Kunz (Rick Jaeger), Amy Schmidt; son, BJ (Sarah) Kunz; granddaughter, Stormie Schmidt; step-grandchildren, Brooke, Megan, Taylor and Madisyn Schmidt; siblings, Ruth (Alan) Hacker, Greg Kunz, Vince Kunz; sisters-in-law, Mary Kunz, Gloria Wheldon; along with his honorary grandchildren, Hunter, Gunner, Harper and Archie Sellnow, Victoria, Mariah, Adam, Emma, Henry, Sammy and Luke Shakal. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barb Kunz; son-in-law, Ralph Schmidt; siblings, Paul Wheldon, Kathryn Kunz and Nick Kunz.
