Benjamin "Benny" Fischer

April 16, 1930 — October 9, 2016

Benjamin "Benny" Fischer was born on April 16, 1930 in rural Sleepy Eye, MN the son of Frank and Clara (Bruckbauer) Fischer. Benny attended country school, St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye and U of M Ag School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956 at the Rank of SP3. He was a member of the 866th Engineer Aviation Battalion stationed in Chateauroux, France. Ben was the 5th Fisher son to serve his county. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Matties at St. George Catholic Church on August 13, 1957. They were blessed with 2 children, Penny (Ron) Moher and Todd Mitchell. Together with his wife they developed a herd of Registered Holsteins which they dispersed in 2011 at which time it was ranked in the top 200 herds in America by the US Holstein Assoc. Ben enjoyed attending World Dairy Expo, Registered Holstein sales, Twy-Lite meetings and Holstein Conventions. He especially enjoyed old time and ballroom dancing. Ben served as director of the Brown County Holstein Assoc. for 27 years. Ben was a self-taught carpenter, plumber and electrical repair person. Those talents he used to restore their 1880 home to its original condition. He is survived by his wife, Genny, daughter, Penny (Ron) Mohr, son, Todd, 4 grandchildren, Brian, Audrey, Valerie and Don, sisters, Olivia Binder and Rosemary (Hilly) Tauer, brother, Sylvester (LaVon) Fischer and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Emil, Edwin, Herbert, Art and Wilbert, sisters, Veronica Simon and Louise Schmitz, brothers-in-law, Howard Binder, Ed Schmitz and Willmer Simon, sisters-in-law, Irene, Theresa and Lorraine Fischer.
