Avis Boston

Avis Darlene Miller was born on June 28, 1923, at Lake Benton, MN, the daughter of James Grace (Sandage) Miller. Avis grew up in Lake Benton where she graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1941. She continued her education for one year at Normal Teacher training at Ivanhoe and became a country school teacher. Avis had a passion for education, in 1959, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Moorhead State College and her Master of Science degree from Moorhead State College in 1966. Avis taught elementary grades at Detroit Lakes School District for many years. She taught in the Marshall School District until moving to California in 1968. Avis taught in the Los Angeles School District as a reading specialist until her retirement in 1991. She loved children and education. Avis is survived by her niece Ardith (Jim) Simon of Comfrey, nephew Rodney (Suzanne) Niemann of Bradenton, FL, great- nieces nephews Carrie (Doug) Harrington, Renee (Shane) Toutges, Todd (Rachel) Simon and 11 great-great nieces nephews.
