Averna Anderson

September 29, 1913 — October 31, 2013

J. Averna Lee was born September 29, 1913, in Madelia, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph Anna (Johnson) Lee. She grew up in the Madelia area, attending District 29 school in Watonwan County and graduating from Madelia High School in 1931. She worked for Farmers Home Mutual Insurance until she was married. She was united in marriage to Dale E. Anderson on March 4, 1937. The couple made their home on the farm in Fieldon Township where they raised their family. They moved to Madelia in 1979. Averna and Dale wintered in Arizona from 1969 until 1987. Averna was active in her church, she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, served as an Elder, and worked as the church secretary for a number of years. She loved to cook, sew and garden . She volunteered as a 4H Leader and later at the Luther Memorial Home. She loved her family and grandchildren. She helped raise her grandchildren when their families needed the help. Averna is survived by her children; Janice Ulmen of Madelia, Duane Anderson of Madelia, grandchildren; Jean Simshauser of Burlington, WA, Mark (Lynn) Blanchard of Madelia, Carol (Jeff) Greiner of Truman, Lily Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, 8 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law; Violet Anderson of Madelia, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, two sons; James and Arthur, parents and infant great-great-granddaughter, 2 sisters and a brother.
