Audrey V. Oates

Audrey was born August 15, 1922 the daughter of William and Della (Larson) Dane. Several years of her childhood were spent at Gillette Hospital. Audrey married Russell Oates in 1944. Throughout their marriage they lived in Madelia and St. Peter. She began working in a sewing factory at the age of 16 and became an avid seamstress and quilter. Over the years she made more than 1,000 quilts and donated them to Lutheran World Relief. She was making quilts for her great-grandchildren a week before her death. Audrey also enjoyed making many craft projects for herself and others. Audrey V. Oates age 93, of Madelia, Minnesota died on May 12, 2016, at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter. Audrey is survived by her daughters Janis, Nila and Jilaine, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and special nieces, Gloria and Ardis. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Raymond Dane, sister Eleanor Ellingsberg and many special cousins. Memorials are preferred to Santas Anonymous.
