Arthur "Hoot" Malmgren died on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Arthur John "Hoot" Malmgren was born in St. James, MN, on January 29, 1925, the son of Arthur and Frances (Rewritzer) Malmgren. Hoot grew up in St. James where he graduated from high school. On August 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kizer in St. James. The couple lived, worked and raised their family in St. James. Hoot worked as an insurance agent, worked at Gambles, owned and operated Hoot's Caf for several years, worked at Schmidt's Bakery before becoming a police officer with the St. James Police Department where he worked until his retirement in 1987. Hoot and Marilyn had a cabin on Long Lake where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family. He served on the St. James Fire Department for 34 years, was a Grand Knight in the Knight of Columbus, past president of the Jaycees, and served as a committee chair in Ducks Unlimited. Hoot was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Marilyn enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. Hoot is survived by his children Chuck (Wyona) Malmgren of Blairstown, IA, Ron (Char) Malmgren of Oak Park Heights, MN, Jim (Mickey) Malmgren of Florence, AZ, Fran Puterbaugh of Sioux Falls, SD 13 grandchildren Richard Malmgren, Michael Malmgren, Amy Malmgren, Lynette Malmgren, Anne Voils, Lisa Malmgren, Brandon Malmgren, Jesse Tintes, Sarah Dragt, Tammy Malmgren, Derek Harms, Stacie Moulton, Rhianna Parmley, and 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, son Donald, parents and 2 sisters Liz and Adair. Visitation 1 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm Sunday, October 18, 2015 Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel 906 - 10th Ave. S.
