Arnold Quiring

February 4, 1929 — December 6, 2021

Arnold Quiring, age 92, of Fairmont formerly of Mountain Lake, died on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Fairmont. Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake with Rev. David Fretham officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday beginning at 11:00am until service time. Arnold Harry Quiring was born at the old Bethel Hospital in Mountain Lake on February 4, 1929, the son of Henry S. and Anna G. Quiring. He grew up on the family farm south of Mt. Lake, attending Country School District #12 to the eighth grade then graduating in 1947 from Mt. Lake High School. Arnold farmed with his father from 1947 to 1951. On January 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Karschnik at the Kimball Lutheran Church. In 1952, they went to work for Henry Pankratz feeding cattle and crop farming until 1963. Arnold then went to work for the Mt. Lake Coop Oil Assoc working in the agronomy department, which he managed from 1965 until his retirement in 1994. Arnold was a hard worker and truly enjoyed working with the farmers, helping them improve their yields. In the past few years, he enjoyed taking rides in the country: in the spring/summer he would enjoy seeing farmers prepare the land, plant, and watch it grow. In the fall we would drive until we found a combine harvesting and stop to watch. Arnold grew up in the Gospel Mennonite Church and joined Kimball Lutheran Church after he got married. While a member at Kimball he served as a Sunday School teacher, on the finance board and as Chairman of the congregation. In 1965, they transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the finance board, Vice Chairman of the Church, Board of Elders, head usher and Christian Service Committee. He also served on the Mt. Lake Water and Light Commission for 5 years, and on the Good Samaritan Advisory Board for 9 years and in the Mt. Lake Lions Club since 1978. He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, golfing and spending time with family and friends. Arnold was a special man: loving, kind, gentle, humble in heart. He had good humor, quick wit, and jokes that will live on forever. He was a great listener, great role model, great husband to his wife, great father to his children, and a great servant of others. He strived to live his life as an example to others, and what it is to be a Christ follower. Arnold is survived by his wife Norma of Fairmont, children; James (Barbara) Quiring of Chanhassen, Dale (Sheryl) Quiring of Lohrville, IA, Nyla (Brad) Gerhardt of Fairmont, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother Alvin (Dorothy) Quiring of Tucson, AZ, sister Elizabeth Harder of Hutchinson, sisters-in-law Louise Quiring of Windom, Betty (Stan) Hotzler of Worthington, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Marvin.
