Arline A. Mattson, age 89, of Sleepy Eye, MN died Tuesday, March 02, 2010 at her home. Arline Adolphson Mattson was born in Chokio, Minnesota on December 20,1920 to George and Frieda Adolphson. She graduated from Chokio High School and then went to St Cloud State Teachers College in St. Cloud, Minnesota where she earned a two-year teaching certificate and taught in Stevens County and Morris, Minnesota for a short time. She met Conrad Mattson while teaching elementary education in Princeton, Minnesota and they were married on August 5, 1945. They moved to Sleepy Eye in 1956 after living in LeSueur, Minnesota for about ten years. She later returned to college and attended Mankato State College where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching and her Master of Science Degree in the field of Special Education. Arline taught in the remedial reading and learning disabilities program in Sleepy Eye Public Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1983. Arline loved gardening, traveling, singing, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved God, had a strong faith and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in Circle for many years. She enjoyed participating in Sleepy Eye Women's Club and Red Hats. Arline is survived by three sons, Daniel Mattson, Oakland, CA; Randall(Kathy)Mattson, Jordan, MN; Ross(Kathy) Mattson, Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Carol(Mike) Francis, Waseca, MN; Rebecca(Ron) Kanengieter, Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren, Erica(Jason) Bryan-Wegner, Nicole Bryan, Ruth Mattson(Noel Ferrick), Margaret Mattson(Marston Morgan), Benjamin Mattson, Joel Francis, Mariana Francis, Conrad Kanengieter, Tanya (Nicholas) Bethard, and Gwen (Brad) Carlson; two great grandchildren, Eliana Bryan-Wegner and Nico Watkins; one son-in-law Rev. Thomas (Sara) Bryan; four sisters, Dorothy Young, Jeannette Greiner, Laverne Williams, Margie Olson; one brother, Earl Adolphson; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Arline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Conrad, her daughter Audrey Bryan and her sister Georgia Brandt. May God bless the memory of Arline Adolphson Mattson.
