Arlene Lavina Sandberg

Arlene Lavina Dunham was born on May 3, 1922 in Strongs, MI to Palmer and Ruth (Olson) Dunham. She graduated from Alsen High School in North Dakota. On July 24, 1949 Arlene married Harold Sandberg. The couple adopted two children, Rachel and David. Arlene graduated from Augsburg College in Minnesota and worked as a teacher for more than 30 years in both Washington and Minnesota. After her retirement in 1986, Arlene was a very active community volunteer. She worked teaching adult literacy programs and teaching English language learners. She was also very involved in her church, Trinity Lutheran in Madelia and a volunteer reader at the Luther Memorial Home. Arlene will be remembered as a very caring teacher, loving mother and wonderful friend. Arlene (Dunham) Sandberg age 95, of Madelia, MN died on May 12, 2017, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Arlene is survived by her brother, Loren Dunham (DeeAnne Helfritz) of Fairmont, MN; dear friend, Joy Maloney; sister-in-law, Margaret Dunham, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sandberg; daughter, Rachel Sandberg; siblings, Ruby (Stanley) Swanson, Vern Dunham, Donald (Vera) Dunham, Florella (Al) Gilborn and parents, Palmer and Ruth Dunham.
