Ardis Petterson

Ardis Jane Petterson of Saint James, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, surrounded by her family at Mayo Clinic Health System in Saint. James.

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 13, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. A memorial service will be held by the family privately. Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Ardis was born on June 2, 1935, at the home of her parents, Ellis and Theresa Johnson in Truman, MN. She grew up in Truman where she attended high school participating in the Bookworms Club, played the trumpet and was a cheerleader. She graduated from Truman High School in 1953.

After high school Ardis moved to Minneapolis, MN before venturing back home where she married Ronald “Bud” Petterson on August 28, 1955, and settled in Saint James on the family farm.

Ardis and Bud raised their 3 children, Kim, Kevin and Danny on their family farm where they farmed for many years. Ardis always made sure the crews working on the farm were taken care of. She also took a job as the head bookkeeper at the St. James Ag Center, where she enjoyed that job for over 20 years.

Ardis enjoyed daily farm life which included her cats, her beloved dogs, gardening, taking care of her outdoor plants and feeding and watching the birds. Over the years, Ardis and Bud enjoyed traveling and visiting family all over the United States. They spent many years camping at Breezy Point and enjoying the outdoors. Knitting and crocheting brought Ardis many hours of enjoyment and to her family many handmade afghans. She also enjoyed her weekly coffee time with her friends.

Ardis loved her family and treasured her grandchildren Katy and Kara, Matt, Stacy and Hilary, Jordan and Jeff. Her favorite was definitely Josie, her beloved dog of 17 years.

Ardis will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Kim Goldschmidt of St. James, Kevin (Kim) Petterson of Garretson, SD,  and Danny (LeAnn) Petterson of St. James; her grandchildren; great grandchildren; her twin sister, Avis (Duane) Hunstad of Hastings; her sisters in-law, Arlene Flynn of Worthington and Patsy Johnson of Fort Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Theresa Johnson; her husband, Ronald “Bud” Petterson; her son in-law, Gary Goldschmidt; and her brothers and sister.
