Anna Mcmullen

Anna Mae McMullen was born August 6, 1922 in St. James, MN to Patrick and Mary (Tierney) McMorrow. She grew up in the St. James area and graduated from St. James High School in 1940. After graduating, Anna helped her parents on the farm and was united in marriage to Donald McMullen on July 16, 1944 at the St. James Catholic Church. After Donald's honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, the couple farmed near Madelia. They then moved to Comfrey in 1957 and farmed in Selma Township. Anna was a very hard worker and spent many days milking cows, cultivating crops, and other necessary farm work. She always had a big garden and canned a lot of vegetables, fruits, and jellies. Anna was an excellent cook so the family always enjoyed and looked forward to her meals. She had a heart of gold and took care of her mother and father as they aged. Anna raised 3 daughters and 3 sons and was always there for them. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to spend time with her family and friends. Anna lived a life of faith and spread that faith to her family. The Rosary was always an important part of her daily life. She was proud of her Irish heritage since her mother and father came from Ireland. St. Patrick's Day had a special meaning and was celebrated by the entire family. Anna began helping her husband in 1972 in NaChurs Fertilizer until their retirement. The couple took many trips and loved to share their memories. She is survived by children- Donna (Thomas) Turbes of Lamberton, Barbara (Eugene) Bertrand of Sleepy Eye, Joann McMullen of Comfrey, Joe McMullen of Thief River Falls, Richard (Susan) McMullen of Comfrey, and James (Pamela) McMullen of Sleepy Eye; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sister Margaret Sturm.
