Anna was born near Wanda, MN on April 22, 1903, the daughter of Christian Mary (Ross) Schroeder. She grew up and attended District #94 country school. She moved with her family to Lastrup, MN near Little Falls and later returned to Wanda. She married George Hengel on October 4, 1921 in Wanda. George was a WWI Veteran. They made their home near Wanda and moved to Sleepy Eye in November of 1954. She was a homemaker most of her life, working at Del Monte for a few years. Anna moved to the Sleepy Eye CareCenter in 1987. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren and was proud of her son, Christy Hengel who is a concertina manufacturer. She is survived by her children, Christy Hengel of New Ulm, Agnes Grausam of Sleepy Eye, Isabelle Hoffman of Cypress, CA, Raymond wife Simone Hengel of Sleepy Eye, Mary Sylvester Kotten of Sleepy Eye, 20 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren and brother, John Mae Schroeder of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George in 1983 and son, Jerome in 1961.
