Anna Mary Ekstrom, the daughter of August and Tillie (Schwartz) Ekstrom was born on March 2, 1914, at Butterfield, MN. She received her education in Butterfield, where she lived her entire life until her health forced her to enter the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN. When Anna's mother died when Anna's youngest sister was only three days old, Anna promised her family that she would remain at home and raise the family until all were on their own, and she fullfilled that promise. On June 20, 1948, Anna was united in marriage to Elmer Derksen at the parsonage of the Mennonite Church of Butterfield. Before their marriage Anna drove truck and made deliveries for her father in his dray line business, and following their marriage she worked at Butterfield Produce. Elmer died on July 26, 2004. She enjoyed flower gardening, making quilts and embroidery, and dogs. One of her favorite memories was traveling to Germany to visit their daughter and her family. Anna died on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Anna is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Boyce and her husband Gordon of Wichita Falls, TX; two grandsons, Michael DuPree and his wife Denise of Fort Worth, TX, and Anthony DuPree and his wife Diana of Watauga, TX; great grandchildren, including David, Jacob, Andrew and Kaitlyn, all of Fort Worth; two sisters, Marcella Vatndahl of Mankato, MN, and Ruby Shellum of Madelia, MN; two brothers, John Ekstrom and his wife Louise of Butterfield, and Harold Ekstrom of Tempe, AZ; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; a son-in-law, A.W. Dub DuPree; and two sisters, Jane Voshage and Ida Mohlencamp.
