Anna May Elting was born in Fulda, Minnesota on May 18, 1928, the daughter of Erich and Alvina (Beckman) Elting. She grew up in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1946, she then went to business school in Minneapolis for a year. She met Bill Brehmer at a box social at church when he bought her box lunch. The couple were married on October 25, 1947. The couple made their home in Minneapolis then in Texas and back to Minnesota before settling down in St. James in 1962. Ann worked as a bookkeeper at Scherr-Tumico for many years and then for the school district and several other businesses in town. Ann was active at Augustana Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Martha Circle and did quilting. Was part of a high school trio that produced a record. She loved to go camping with the "camper scampers" group at area campgrounds, and later traveling. She loved to go dancing, swimming and walking. She was always a physically active person throughout her life. She liked to cook and bake, play piano and sing. She was a member of the St. James VFW Auxiliary. Ann moved to Custer, South Dakota in August 2016 to be closer to her daughter. Anna Brehmer passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Custer Regional Senior Center in Custer, South Dakota. Anna is survived by her daughter Carol (Stan) Drietz of Hill City, SD, grandchildren Katie (Andrew) Luu of Brooklyn Park, MN, Kevin Drietz of Ottumwa, IA, Rachel Drietz of Hill City, SD, Sadie (Mike) Rezac of Eagle Lake, MN, a great-granddaughter Lux Rezac, a sister-in-law Betty Schwarzenbach of Worthington, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband William (1995), son John (1994), her parents and a brother Alvin.
