Amos Shellum

March 15, 1927 — March 4, 2009

Amos Lee Shellum was born Tuesday, March 15, 1927, to parents Arnold and Josie (Lee) Shellum near Hanska, MN, where he grew up. He was Baptized on May 1, 1927 at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church where he was also confirmed on June 8, 1941. Amos went to work at Tubular Micrometer Company in 1944. From May 1, 1945 to August 1, 1946 he served in the US Navy. Following his military service Amos returned to St. James and went to work at Scherr-Tumico (S-T Industries). On October 2, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Kintzi in St. James. In December 1977, Amos became a part-owner of Westin, Inc. where he worked until his retirement. Amos enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and vacationing at the Four Seaons Shack in northern Minnesota. Amos and Jeanette also enjoyed boating and relaxing at their cabin on Long Lake. Amos and Jeanette enjoyed their winter extended vacations in Florida where he would continue his wood carving skills while sitting on the beach. Amos was a past member of the St. James Jaycees, Watonwan Game and Fish, Minnesota Deer Hunters, Minnesota Pheasants- Comittee member, and Ducks Unlimited- Comittee member. Amos was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, grandson Jason Westman, parents, brother Luverne Shellum and brother-in-law Don Kassen. Survivors include his daughters, Laurie (Steve) Westman of St. James, Karen (Alan) Mulik of Tampa, FL, son, Craig (Val) Shellum of Brandon, SD, grandchildren, Gabe Westman of Mankato and his fiancee Michelle, Jesse (Jason) Chapas of Tampa, FL, Josh Shellum of Brandon, SD, Jamie Shellum of Brandon, SD, Heidi Westman of St. James, great-granddaughter Alexandra Chapas, brothers, Jim (Wilma) Shellum of Burnsville, Bernie Shellum of Detroit, MI, sister, Ruby Kassen of Florida and a sister-in-law, Mary Shellum.
