Alvin D. Eitzen was born on September 4, 1918, to Rev. David P. and Elizabeth (Nickel) Eitzen at Mountain Lake, MN. He accepted the Lord as Saviour at an early age and was baptized by his father in 1931, when he was accepted as a member of the Bergfelder Mennonite Church (now Lakeview Gospel Church) in Mountain Lake. He received his education at the Mountain Lake German School, and he graduated from the Mountain Lake High School in 1938. He continued his education at the Mountain Lake Bible School. On September 5, 1943, Alvin married Lena Baerg at Lustre, MT. They lived in Mountain Lake for a year before buying a farm at Frazer, MT where they farmed and ranched until 1981. While in Montana he served as President of the County Farm Bureau for several years, was chairman of the local telephone company, was a member and director of Equity Cooperative Association of Wolf Point, MT for 16 years, and he served on the first board of the Lustre Bible Academy and also served as its treasurer and on its building committee. Alvin and Lena transferred their membership to the Bethel Lustre Church where he was active in many capacities. When this church disbanded they attended the Lustre Mennonite Brethren Church until his retirement in 1981 when they moved back to Mountain Lake, transferring to Lakeview Gospel Church, where he remained an active and faithful member until his death. After his retirement he was active in many areas including the Mountain Lake Senior Citizens Center, MCC meat canning, MinnKota Relief Sale, and Northern District Mennonite Men projects. Alvin D. Eitzen, age 86, of Mountain Lake, MN, died on Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN. Alvin is survived by his wife, Lena Eitzen of Mountain Lake; their children, Erwin (Angela) Rempel of Newton, KS, Norman (Elizabeth) Rempel of Fresno, CA, Barbara (Elwyn) Busenitz of Newton, KS, and Howard Eitzen; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Sarah Eitzen; 3 brothers David D. Eitzen, Peter D. Eitzen and Theodore in infancy; and a sister, Elizabeth A. Rempel.
