Alvin Leo Bertilson

Alvin Leo Bertilson was born on June 1, 1920 to John and Ronnaug Bertilson in Odin Township, MN. Alvin entered the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and served during WWII in Italy. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the Odin area and married Marlys Neuenschwander at the United Methodist Church in Madelia in 1945. They farmed near Ormsby until the couple moved to Madelia in 1955. Alvin worked as a custodian at the Madelia High School for 35 years. He was active in the VFW and Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. Alvin loved to sing and participated in the Trinity Lutheran Church choir for nearly 50 years. He also enjoyed singing with the Lakeland Choraliers for many years. Alvin Leo Bertilson age 97, of Madelia, MN died on April 8, 2018, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Alvin is survived by his children, Jerry (Dori) Bertilson of La Crescent, Merlin (Deb) Bertilson of Elk River, Kurt (Renee) Bertilson of Madelia; 3 grandchildren, Tosha (Tim) Mattison, Amanda Pommerening, Zechariah Bertilson; 5 great-granddaughters, Hayley, Chloe, Sydney, Violet, Madelyn; sister, Bernice Olsen and many nieces and nephews.
