Alma Lillian Romberg

Alma Lillian Romberg, age 104, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on October 1, 2021, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Service will be held at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Pastor Nathanael Mayhew. Interment will be at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Alma Romberg was born on July 21, 1917 to Franklin & Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Miller) Romberg. She was born on the family farm where she grew up in Home Township. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Church in Sleepy Eye, MN. Alma attended Country School District 30 for 5 years and then attended and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public School in 1935. She then attended 1 year of Teacher's Training at Sleepy Eye High School. She taught at Country Schools in Renville and Brown Counties from 1938-1940. She then moved to Minneapolis and worked for Sears and Roebuck, then moved to Canada for a short time. Alma moved back and worked for Sears until the end of 1946. For 5 1/2 years she worked in Japan in accounting. She returned to Sleepy Eye and was employed at the State Bank of Sleepy Eye for 4 years. In 1957, she started working at Del Monte of Sleepy Eye, working there for 25 years and she retired in 1982. She was a charter member of Grace Evangelical Church joining in 1959. Alma enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, choir, gardening, volunteering, reading, playing cards and held various offices at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, Qui Vive Club, Senior Citizens, Women of Grace, Brown County Triad, Brown County Committee on aging and the Historical Society. Alma is survived by her brother, Walter (Emily) Romberg of Sleepy Eye; two nieces and four nephews. She was preceded in death her parents; brothers, Herbert, Edmund (Rhonelda "Pat"), and Willard (Ella) Romberg; sisters, Marie Romberg, Helen (David) Wright, Ruth (Arnold) Tessmer.
