Alice Marie Sandmeyer was born March 11, 1934 in Goodland, Kansas to Harold and Martha (Forbes) Riggle. She died at the age of 71, on April 23, 2005 at her home in St. James, MN. Her family moved to Minnesota when she was three years old. She was raised in Truman and graduated from Truman High School. While in high school, she met Bob Sandmeyer; they were married September 16, 1954 in St. James and made their home in St. James where they raised five children. Alice was an active member of the St. James Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 33, Eagles Auxiliary 3420 and Christian Women. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy in her life. Her hobbies include cooking, reading, baking and sewing. Her passion was creating beautiful quilts. Alice is survived by her husband Bob; their four daughters and their husbands - Barb and Willard Reed of Madelia, Cathy and Jim Newville of Elk River, Diane Sam and Mark Forsyth of Rapid City, SD, and Brenda and Randy Black of Amboy; grandchildren Tim Reed, Angie and Teresa Newville, Jen Sandmeyer and Matt Olson, and Nick and Nathan Forsyth; two great-grandchildren Trinity Carlson and Landon McKinley; nine step grandchildren and 18 step great-grandchildren; three foreign exchange students, Andres Bach of Sweden, Jon Halldor Gudmondson of Iceland and Stephan Bahlmann of Germany; one sister Elsie Shoen and her husband Ronald, four brothers and wives, Orville and Carol, Frank and Betty, Howard and Alice, and Harlan and Darlene. Alice was preceded in death by her son, Steven Freighter, parents Harold and Martha and stepfather Raymond Brown. Fabric wears and colors fade, But her memory is stitched in our hearts forever.
