Alice Marie Cowell, 88, of Butterfield, Minnesota passed on Friday morning December 18th, 2020 surrounded by family. Graveside services will be held a 1pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Tracy Cemetery in Tracy, Minnesota. Alice was born in Tracy, Minnesota on August 2nd, 1932 to Ray and Louise (Gilb) Hanson. She was raised with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended Tracy Public Schools. She met the love of her life Leo Dale Cowell of Tracy, Minnesota and married on November 20th, 1948. They first made Tracy their home to start a family where eventually they had 9 children all together. Alice worked at the rest home at Tracy, waitressed at Zeke's Cafe and the train depot, she also made lefse for the local grocery stores for the holidays. She was also a homemaker and raised her family looked after the family home. After the Tracy tornado in 1968, Leo and Alice rebuilt the family home. They opted to move to Butterfield, Minnesota in 1971 where they continued to raise their family and were lifelong members of the 1st Lutheran Church at Tracy and Butterfield. Alice was known in Butterfield to ride her bicycle all over town to pick up the mail, visit her neighbors, go to Dell's Grocery store or visit her family throughout the town. Bicycle rides were her most favorite hobby. Other hobbies included were her dogs, she had some famous dogs, the most recent was Spike and Sparky. She always kept a collage of pictures of cats and dogs on her walls she owned throughout her life. Alice also loved to cook, she was known for her cream puffs and calico beans, the family couldn't go through a holiday without them! Alice also loved fishing, gardening and maintaining her apple trees. Alice was very fond of her family and especially her many grandchildren, she always made time to have a conversation with everyone in her large family. Alice took much pride in her personal relationship with each member of her family. Alice is survived by her 9 children Bruce (Lynda) Cowell of Mountain Lake, Kevin (Sue) Cowell of St. James, Gary Cowell (special friend Dianne Klotz)of Sleepy Eye, Judy Wagner (special friend Arthur Buck) of Butterfield, Bradley (MaryJo) Cowell of St. James, Bryon of Butterfield, Kent Cowell (special friend Roxane Mau) of Butterfield, Todd (Connie) Cowell of Mountain Lake and Corey (Beverly) Cowell of Butterfield. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her Husband Leo, Parents, siblings Donna Mae, Lennis, Dorrene and Richard, Grandchildren Lance Cowell, Candice Cowell (infant) and Karson Weston (infant).
