Alden R. Frederickson age 92, of Madelia, MN died on July 7, 2020, at Madelia Community Hospital. A private funeral service will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church-Madelia, on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Rev. Greg Volbrecht. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Military rites by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Alden is survived by his wife Maxine Frederickson; daughter Kathryn Anderson and her husband David Anderson of New Ulm; son Michael Frederickson and his wife Shelly (Nordstrom) Frederickson of Minnetonka as well as grandchildren Holly Llavona, Jessica Rethwill, Andrew Anderson, Eric Frederickson, Lauren Frederickson, as well as six great grandchildren; and a sister, Sonja Smesmo and her husband Arnie of Hanska. Alden was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Elroy, Harold, Marlowe and Donald Frederickson; sisters Marcella Oachs, Virginia Nelson and grandson Jesse Anderson. Alden Raymond Frederickson was born February 8th, 1928 in rural Hanska to Edward "Eddy" and Tilda (Helling) Frederickson. He attended country school near Hanska and later served honorably in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge from military service, Alden was united in marriage to Maxine Schwanke on May 5th 1956. After their marriage the couple resided in Madelia and raised two children, Kathryn and Michael. Alden was a long-time employee of the Watonwan County Highway Department until his retirement in 1987. After Alden's retirement, he became an avid golfer. He also loved to travel; most often visiting attractions in his beloved Midwest and in the winter months, Alden was a snowmobile enthusiast and had a year-round keen appreciation for the wonders of nature and the outdoors. Alden was also a resourceful handyman who enjoyed working on projects of all shapes and sizes. He was a long time member of Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia, and a member of the American Legion Post 19. Alden will be remembered a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Hwy 3, Flanders Ave. Madelia, Minnesota, United States 56062 Military Rites Honors will take place at the cemetery provided by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard.
