Albert Platz

Albert Linus Platz was born on March 18, 1932 in Bashaw Township on the family farm to Edward and Rose (Holm) Platz. He was confirmed at St. Raphael Catholic Church where he was a lifelong member. Al spent 1954-1956 in the Army where he was stationed in Germany as a cannonier and attained the rank of Corporal. Al was united in marriage to Gloria Turbes at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda on August 27, 1957. They farmed the third generation Centennial farm in Bashaw Township for 38 years. He was a former school board member of District #52, Brown County ASCS committee member, as well as a member of St. Raphael Cemetery board and church usher, the Knights of Columbus, the Springfield Legion, and the VFW. After retiring from farming, he worked for the Harvest Land Elevator, and for 6 years at the Building Center. He loved his family, reading History books, playing cards with his friends and traveling. Since 2006, he spent winters in Harlingen, TX. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Al is survived by wife Gloria of Springfield; daughters- Julianne (Larry) Hand of DeSoto, MO, Monica Platz of Wilmette, IL, Teresa (Dave Maanum) Platz of Fergus Falls; son Randall (Kara) Platz of Springfield; grandchildren- Allison, Alex and Tyler Hand, Alex and Adam Herrmann, Kate (Randall) Mansfield, Tony and Joseph Onstad, and Jack, Jake, Tom and Camille Platz; step-grandchildren-Scott (Rose) Maanum and Suzi (Will) Orr; great-grandchildren- Avery and Easton Mansfield; foreign daughters- Martina O'Sullivan (Dr. Peter) Tait, Imogene and Hugo of Adelaide, Australia, and Martine Denis, Manon and Victor of Brussels, Belgium; sisters- Verona Staloch of Wells, and Violet (Ray) Seifert of Morgan; sisters-in-law- Elaine Polzin of Springfield, Janet (Joe) Platz of New Ulm, Mary (Leo) Schmitz of Springfield, Florence (JR) Fennern of Wabasso, and Alpha Platz of Security, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leo; sister-in-law Lettie Turbes; and brothers-in-law- William and Eugene Turbes, Alex Staloch, and Leonard Polzin.
