Alan was born May 24, 1963, to Harvey and Norma (Mosel) Reed in Madelia. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1982. After graduating high school, he was married and had his first 2 children, Monique and Cody. They later divorced. In 1994, Alan met April Wolner, and had his 3rd child, Brianna. On December 31, 1999, they married at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in Saint James.
Alan “Al” did mechanic work most of his life. He also graded roads for many years, which he learned from his uncle, Earl Reed. In his free time, he enjoyed working on and riding his Harleys and snowmobiles. He was very proud of his 1976 Chevy Camero that he restored in the late 1990s. He also restored a 1206 Farmall tractor that he got from Larry Trullinger and used for tractor pulling in the early 2000s. In the past couple years, he was working on his John Deere 5020 that he got from his dad. Alan could often be found with his dogs, whether it was driving around with one or just working around the farm. He was known for walking around in his cut-off shorts and sleeveless snap-up shirts, usually unsnapped. You always knew he was dressed up when he had his Harley Davidson shirts on or needed to be more decent with his snaps done up, hopefully in the right order. Alan had knowledge on so many different things from his mechanic work, projects around the house, woodcutting, or just random knowledge. He will be remembered by many as a kind, caring man who would try to help in any way he could.
Alan is survived by his wife, April; children, Monique Reed, Cody (Candice) Reed, and Brianna (Justin) Kilmer; grandchildren, Catelynn and Hailey; parents, Harvey and Norma Reed; brother, Randy Reed; nieces, Amber Reed and Ashley (Sawyer Carr) Reed; father-in-law, Burton Wolner; and special friends and neighbors, Bruce and Amy Osborne. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Wilma Wolner.
