Agnes Miller

July 19, 1913 — August 31, 2005

Agnes was born on July 19, 1913 in Prairieville Township the daughter of William Ida (Kragh) Mikaelsen. She grew up on the Mikaelsen farm West of Evan and graduated from high school in Sleepy Eye and from Normal School in Redwood Falls. Agnes earned a Life Certificate in teaching from Mankato Teachers College in 1938. She taught for several years before her marriage to Arthur Miller on June 16, 1944 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan. After marriage the couple farmed near Lamberton, later moving to Brookville Township, Redwood County where they lived and farmed until 1970. Agnes taught part time for the Morgan Elementary School for a number of years. She was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Agnes kept a life long diary of her family's activities. She enjoyed being with family and friends and communicating with them regularly by email and letters. She was a humble caring person who always put others before herself. Survivors include, daughters, Connie (Gary) DeGrote of Northfield, Arlene Vasquez of St. Louis Park, grandchildren, Christine (Matt) Degrote Boyd of Portland, OR, Jonathan (Barb Duffrin) Degrote of Minneapolis, Michael Vasquez of Minneapolis and Leah Vasquez of St. Louis Park, great-grandchildren, Lily Lucy Boyd, sister, Elaine Petersen of Sleepy Eye, brother-in-law, Harry (Alice) Miller of Lake Lillian. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur in 1991 and brother-in-law, Arne Petersen.
